Caldwell County Economic Development Celebrates Industry at Banquet



The Herman Anderson Award was presented to Alan Merck for his long-standing impact on economic development and infrastructure improvement in the region. Merck joined Blue Ridge Energy in 2012 as Director of Key Accounts and Business Development and became Chief Operating Officer in 2018.
Granite Falls Composites (GFC) was named Industry of the Year. GFC is a locally led manufacturer focused on preserving local jobs, producing Made‑in‑the‑USA materials, and supporting the surrounding community. Following a 2025 management buyout by Jamey Little and Melissa Curtis, GFC continues to provide reliable, high‑performance solutions for the fiber optic cable and composites industries. The company emphasizes technical expertise, consistent quality, and a family‑focused culture, upholding its commitment to deliver “strength in every strand.”
The North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR), a private company whose sole customer is the State of North Carolina, was named Partner of the Year. The company provides infrastructure solutions and strategic investment programs to improve the state’s railroads. Since 2017, NCRR has awarded more than $74 million in economic development grants, creating 17,300 jobs across the state, and is a valued partner to Caldwell County Economic Development, supporting initiatives such as planning for the Northwest North Carolina Regional Economic Development Organization.
Three local industries were recognized for reaching milestone anniversaries during 2025. McCreary Modern celebrated 40 years in business. Carolina Precision Components celebrated its 30th anniversary, and Carolina Leg Supply LLC was recognized for 10 years in business.
